Associate Professor of Directing Robin Witt is the director of the successful production of the U.S. premiere of Simon Stephens’s play “Light Falls.” The play, which runs at Chicago’s Steep Theatre through August 13, received a stellar review in the Chicago Tribune: “Witt’s production, for the record, is simple, kind and exquisite,” wrote Tribune theatre critic Chris Jones. In addition to directing the show, Witt received a Faculty Research Grant to commission composer Thomas Dixon, with whom she has frequently collaborated, to write the music for “The Great North Road,” a song that weaves through the production. Witt wrote the song’s lyrics. Witt is a prominent director in the Chicago theatre world, directing productions for the Steppenwolf, Griffin, and Goodman theatres, in addition to the Steep. She has won multiple awards for her work and has been described as “fearless,” “a powerhouse,” “galvanic,” and “unstinting” in the Chicago press. Learn more about her work.
