Set Design by Theatre Professor Chosen for International Showcase
A production designed by Assistant Professor of Scenic Design Tom Burch has been selected for the International Performing Arts for Youth Showcase, to be held in Madison WI in January 2017. The showcase will present 16 shows from seven countries.
The design, for Journey to Oz, was created for a production presented in February 2016 at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte (CTC). Journey to Oz, with Burch’s set (pictured), will also begin touring nationally next year under the auspices of Experiential Theatre Company of New Jersey, which co-developed the production with CTC.
Earlier this summer, Burch’s set design for the midwest premiere of British playwright Roy Williams’s Sucker Punch at Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago was nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award. He returned to Chicago this summer as designer for the Northlight Theatre’s production of The City of Conversation, which runs September 15-October 23.
