“I had a great experience getting my music education degree at UNC Charlotte. I feel my professors gave me some great teaching knowledge and excellent practical information for a new teacher.” In preparation for his work as an orchestra teacher, the most important thing was getting a foundation as a bowed string teacher. Todd credits John Cloer and Dr. Lynda Pickney for the development of those skills. He also looks back fondly on his guitar lessons: “The most meaningful part of college for me was my relationship with my guitar instructor, Michael Mosley. Mr. Mosley was not only a fantastic musician and educator, but a very important role model and mentor in my life.”
Todd is such an advocate for the Department of Music at UNC Charlotte that he has brought his son to visit as a prospective student. “The string program at UNC Charlotte has become stronger every year. It is an excellent program, and worth consideration.”
Todd’s best piece of advice for music students is one he learned from former professor Dr. Larry Marks: “Don’t smile before Christmas.”
