How did you first get interested in theatre?
My interest in theatre started when I was in middle school. I began attending shows at Matthews Playhouse and Theatre Charlotte during my early teenage years and fell in love with the stage. As I progressed to high school, I became heavily involved in my school’s theatre department, both on stage and behind the scenes. During my 4 years in high school, I stage-managed two musicals, acted in 4 plays, helped with scenic, lighting, and sound design for our department’s shows, and was the president of our chapter of the International Thespian Society. I find comfort and community in every aspect of theatre; it is like a second home to me!
What kind of career do you hope to have?
My dream future career is directing shows and teaching theatre arts, specifically for youth in underserved areas. I am most interested in Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) and Physical Theatre, and hope to utilize these branches of theatre throughout my future career in education.
What is your favorite thing about the Department of Theatre?
My favorite things about the UNC Charlotte Department of Theatre are the outstanding faculty and staff, the resources provided to me to advance my career, and the unique community of students and artists. Every individual in my department has a true love and passion for what they do, and it reflects through their work.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
In my free time, I like to play pickleball and tennis with my friends, watch movies, and try new restaurants in the Charlotte area!
