Students have the opportunity to perform in four fully produced concerts a year, as well as other student-led productions and projects. Click each album cover below to see more photos from the productions!

2025/26

This year, the Department of Theatre closed its season with the hit-musical, "Cabaret," book by Joe Masteroff, based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood, music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and directed and choreographed by Tod Kubo. It also included "The Slumber Party," by E. Claudette Freeman and directed by Margarette Joyner; "Intimate Apparel," by Lynn Nottage and directed by Sidney Horton; and "Gather, Again," written, choreographed, and directed by UNC Charlotte Students.

2024/25

This year, the Department of Theatre presented “Old Stories, New Voices.” Each show in the season was a contemporary adaptation, a spinoff, or a modern reimagining of a world classic—a play that has stood the test of time and brilliantly articulates universal themes that offer revelations, insights, and clarity to readers and theatregoers of any era. The season included Shakespeare’s "Measure for Measure," "Playboy of the Western World," "Clybourne Park" and "Antigone Now."

2023/24

IN 2023-24, the Department of Theatre presented "Legally Blonde ,The Musical," with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin and book by Heather Hach. The department also presented a new play by Margarette Joyner, "The New South Part 1: How We Got Here"; "The Caligari Project," a puppet production based on the landmark German Expressionist film, “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”; and BBC’s "Welcome to Our Village, Please Invade Carefully."

2022/23

This year, the Department of Theatre presented Melanie Marnich’s "These Shining Lives," Annie Baker’s "The Antipodes," Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Sweat," and Shakespeare's "As You Like It" in the UNC Charlotte Botanical Garden.

2021/22

This year, the Department of Theatre presented Georgina Escobar’s "Migrant X," "Gather" – a series of short plays by students and alumni, Charly Evon Simpson’s "Jump," and the musical "Pippin."
