Nathaniel Underwood is an Assistant Professor of Illustration at UNC Charlotte. He received his BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design and MFA in Painting from UNC Greensboro. Before teaching at UNC Charlotte, he taught life drawing at Savannah College of Art and Design and drawing for entertainment design and figurative painting at Columbus College of Art and Design.

Underwood works as an illustrator within the advertising industry and provides creative support and leadership for numerous leading agencies. His work as an illustrator has influenced the creative direction of many iconic brands. Underwood is also a painter who draws inspiration from nature, with perception being the absolute foundation of his practice. His creative pursuit is stimulated by objectively viewing the world.
