Christina Beam is the Costume Lab Manager at UNC Charlotte. Christina holds an MFA in Costume Design from UMass Amherst, having completed an assistantship that included rigorous work in costume construction. She also works as a freelance Costume Designer, having designed productions for Shakespeare & Company (Lenox, MA), Chester Theatre Company (Chester, MA), The Hartt School (Hartford, CT), Western Connecticut State University, Wheelock Family Theater (Boston, MA), New England Conservatory (Boston, MA), and Duende
Productions (NYC), among others. Her designs for The Lily’s Revenge at UMass Amherst were included in the Emerging Artist Exhibit at the 2019 USITT Conference and also at the 2019 Prague Quadrennial, and they were displayed as part of the 2022 World Stage Design Emerging
Artist Exhibit in Calgary. Her costumes for the “In the Woods” photography project were selected to be featured as part of the 2023 USITT/USA Prague Quadrennial Emerging Artist Exhibit, which was displayed at the USITT conference and also at the Prague Quadrennial that year.

Christina previously worked as the Costume Shop Supervisor at Western Connecticut State University and as the Interim Costume Lab Coordinator at Bridgewater State University. She has also worked as a technician in several costume shops, including Hartford Stage,
Shakespeare & Company, and Connecticut Repertory Theater.
