New Gallery of Modern Art Features Work by Prof. Godlewska
A new show of paintings by Associate Professor of Art Maja Godlewska will open at the New Gallery of Modern Art in Charlotte with a reception on Friday, March 31. “The Ultimate Landscape” runs through May 6; Godlewska will speak about the work at an Artist Talk on April 22.
“The Ultimate Landscape” features large-scale paintings and smaller works on paper that were created in response to time that Godlewska spent on the small island of Mauritius, located 550 miles east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean, and in Sicily and Cuba. This is her third show at the New Gallery of Modern Art, which represents her work in the southeastern United States.
Godlewska is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including a Fulbright Fellowship, Kosciuszko Foundation Grant (New York), several Arts & Science Council Regional Artist Project Grants, a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship Award, and numerous Faculty Research Grants from UNC Charlotte. Her work has ben presented in nearly 100 solo and group exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad and is held in numerous collections, including the Mint Museum (Charlotte).
