Alumna Promoted to Principal Dancer in NYC Company

Laura Dearman ’18 has been promoted to a principal dancer position with Neville Dance Theatre.

Dance alumna Laura Dearman ’18 has been promoted to a principal dancer position with Neville Dance Theatre, a Manhattan-based contemporary ballet company founded in 2005 by Brenda R. Neville.

Dearman joined Neville Dance Theatre in September 2018 as a company member. The company presents annual fall seasons in New York City, as well as curated and festival performances throughout the year.

In a public announcement of the promotion, the company praised Dearman as “a dancer of great diversity, commitment, artistry, integrity, and kindness” and “a ray of light and a grounding force throughout the last four years.”

Dearman will perform in the company’s Virtual Summer Concert on August 27 in the Beethoven Ballet Suite and in live theater performances on November 5 and 6.

A native of Statesville, N.C., Dearman earned a B.A. in Dance and the Professional Training Certificate offered by UNC Charlotte in partnership with Charlotte Ballet. Read more about her in this alumni spotlight.
