How did you first get interested in dance?
I am going into my second year of college here at UNC Charlotte and love the dance department! Dance has always been a part of my life, I grew up dancing every morning for fun as a child. Once I started classes at the age of 6, I fell in love and knew this is what I wanted to do. I began performing around 10 years old at talent shows and started doing competitions up until I started to learn Ballet. Ballet opened my eyes to a beautiful artistry and amazing techniques. Being Hispanic also brought me the culture of Mexican Folklorico and the music . Now I perform all over North Carolina blending Ballet techniques/ steps with Latin beats in various festivals and theatre’s, as well as performing in school shows here at UNC Charlotte!

What kind of career do you hope to have?
I am planning to become a Performer / Choreographer. I am also thinking of becoming a Teacher as well! With my Criminal Justice degree, I plan to become a CSI after my dance career.

What is your favorite thing about The Department of Dance?
The Professors and the Connections! I never knew how the world can be so small. I feel so at home when I’m in the department, and I’ve made such amazing friends in my first year of college!

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I participate in many non profit events that happen in Charlotte by performing, I also give the freedom of watching ballet in public as not everyone has the money to go see dance, I feel as though art should be shared. I’m making a life worth dancing.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I rent the studios to dance! I ask a friend to come join me, it is the most fun.
