How did you first get interested in music?

My family is filled with musicians, so music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My first experience with performing was when I did theater for four years before I dedicated my time to playing the flute. Eventually, I decided to focus on music, pursuing it as a career and taking every opportunity that came my way. Ever since then, I have continued to fall in love with music every day.

What kind of career do you hope to have?

There are so many things I hope to do! My biggest dream is to play flute or piccolo in a major or regional orchestra. I would also love to be involved in academia, continue to teach young flutists, or even work in woodwind repair.

What is your favorite thing about the College of Arts + Architecture or the Department of Music?

My favorite thing about the music department is the people. I am able to surround myself with musicians who inspire me to grow, challenge myself, and become a better person each day. I like to think about the phrase “you are who you surround yourself with.” Along with my peers, the professors make all the difference. They are so supportive, knowledgeable, and invested in their students. I would also like to mention the janitorial and maintenance staff; they take care of everything in the department. I am grateful that I am able to surround myself with people who truly care about what they do.

Have you done any work in the community?

I work with a high school marching band in the area. While I no longer participate in the Pride of Niner Nation Marching Band, it still holds a special place in my heart. Working with the students and seeing how excited they get when they can recognize their own improvement is the best part of my job.

Do you have any scholarships?

I received the Clara McKay and Charles H. Stone Scholarship in Music. This not only allows me to focus on my studies without worrying about tuition, but also encourages me to keep going as my effort is recognized.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?

When I’m not in Robinson Hall, I like to spend time reading on my porch swing, watching movies, or with my family and pets. I also love exploring uptown and seeing what the city has to offer.
