All scholarship applicants, including new and returning students, must apply for dance scholarships through Niner Scholars. All students must submit application materials, including an essay and resume. In addition, incoming students (both freshmen and transfers) will be interviewed in the spring either in person or virtually. Scholarship students are active in our department and often act as ambassadors for campus events! Students are welcome and encouraged to reapply each year, as long as they meet the proper criteria.

“To me, receiving a scholarship intended to further myself as a dancer means everything. I am a twin, so having two kids to simultaneously put through college is not a small expense for my family. The opportunity to double major in both dance and computer science was what brought me to Charlotte. The dance department exposes me to different styles and methods of studying dance that I would not receive anywhere else.

I dream of being a professional ballet dancer as well as choreographer. The dance department’s diverse and intersectional approach, and their emphasis on the ‘why’ and theory, make me confident that their training and education will be essential to my development as an artist. I feel forever indebted to them for the opportunities I have been given and for how the scholarships I have received have supported me in these endeavors.”

Devdan Ferguson, B.A. in Dance with a concentration in Performance, Choreography and Theory and a B.S. in Computer Science, with an Undergraduate Certificate in Professional Training with Charlotte Ballet.
