Associate Professor of Theatre, Retired
Bob Croghan taught costume design and masks and puppetry in the UNC Charlotte Theatre program for 35 years.  While teaching, he also pursued a very active professional career in costume and/or scenery design for theatre, opera, and dance. He has professional and university design credits for over 300 productions at theatres, including The Alliance Theatre, George Street, Warehouse Theatre, North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, Festival Theatre, Mill Mountain Theatre, Opera Carolina, Children's Theatre of Charlotte, Charlotte Rep, Charlotte Shakespeare, and CPCC Summer Theatre. He developed a light-weight thermoplastic mask for dance that remains state-of-the-art for ballet performance.

He is very proud of his alums who went on to excel in professional theatres, opera (international), film, and university teaching. His students won first place in the Southeastern Theatre Design Competition (seven times), a USITT Purchase Award, and represented the US four different times at the Prague Quadrennial. Upon retirement, he continued to design professionally for another decade.  Today he devotes his time to international travel, reading, and cat wrangling.
