Undergraduate Programs
The David R. Ravin School of Architecture (SoA) offers unique undergraduate programs, providing both a liberal arts education and pre-professional training. UNC Charlotte is an urban research institution located in one of the largest and fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country, and it hosts a unique array of educational and research opportunities available Only at Charlotte. One of its great assets is the College of Arts + Architecture, which makes UNC Charlotte the only institution within the University of North Carolina System to provide degrees in architecture, the fine arts, and the performing arts under one college.
The SoA continues that innovation by providing a nationally distinct undergraduate program that provides both a liberal arts education and pre-professional training. By promoting a holistic view of the built environment, it trains future leaders in both architecture and its related disciplines. Through a dedication to design research, a strong affiliation with the arts, and a growing set of relationships with the other departments at UNC Charlotte, students here expand their knowledge and follow their interests, and degree pathways that include minors and double-majors give them a competitive edge as architectural practitioners.
BA in Architecture (128 Credit Hours)
The Bachelor of Arts in Architecture is a 4-Year, Pre-Professional Degree that serves as a foundation for a professional accredited degree at the graduate level. Students interested in becoming registered architects are offered multiple pathways to that goal, catered to their individual goals and circumstances. The liberal arts foundation of the program, meanwhile, allows students to apply their interest in architecture not only to a career in architecture, but also to careers in urban design and planning, community engagement, historical and cultural research, sustainability research and practice, construction and building technologies, real estate development, new media, and other fields. The program requires a combination of broad survey courses, seminars on specialized topics, and a course in methodologies. This Minor focuses on interpretive lenses, research methods, and writing strategies for the historical analysis and criticism of architecture. Learn more about this program.
Arts + Architecture Honors Program
SoA students may pursue a degree with honors through the Art + Architecture Honors Program (AAHP), which is affiliated with the University’s Honors College. Through the AAHP, students take an active and engaged role in their own education within an interdisciplinary learning environment built on the shared nature of the built, visual, and performing arts. Within the AAHP, students not only explore connections between the various artistic disciplines but also between the arts and the community.
