Student Organizations
There are many organizations at UNC Charlotte, where students can make friends, learn about the professional world, nurture their creativity, and develop leadership skills. Student organizations and collegiate chapters of national associations within the Department of Music include the Collegiate Chapter of the National Association for Music Education, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Sigma Alpha Iota, UNC Charlotte Choirs, the Collegiate Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, and Orchestras at UNC Charlotte.

COLLEGIATE CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR MUSIC EDUCATION
Faculty Advisor: Dr. Fred Spano | 2024-25 President: Patrick Nguyen
The Department of Music sponsors Chapter 891 of the Collegiate National Association for Music Education (CNAfME), the only professional organization that involves all types of music educators (i.e., general music, band, choir, orchestra). However, membership is open to all students in the Department. Each year collegiate members attend the annual North Carolina Music Educators Conference (NCMEA) in Winston-Salem at a reduced conference price. The NCMEA Conference is an exceptional music education event that includes high-quality honor ensembles; choir, band, and orchestra performances; along with a wealth of professional development workshops, research sessions, and music vendor exhibits addressing all aspects of music teaching. During the conference, collegiate members are able to network with NC teachers and assist with the Department of Music’s exhibitor booth.
The CNAfME chapter at UNC Charlotte also sponsors events for members including on-campus workshops in music education and fundraisers for local school programs. Members also gain valuable experience working with the UNC Charlotte Invitational Honor Bands. Social events have included game nights, caroling, and informal dinners.

UNC CHARLOTTE CHOIRS

Faculty Advisor: Dr. Jason Dungee | 2024-25: not active
We are a student organization made up of all the choirs and vocal groups on campus. We have auditioned and un-auditioned choirs and we are trying to raise awareness of our choirs and the music department in general. We have members from majors all over campus from music to engineering. We love new members!
