Professor Publishes Chapter in “Letters to the Leaders of China”
Dr. Zhongjie Lin has just published “When Green was the New Black: What Went Wrong with China’s Eco-cities?” in the book, Letters to the Leaders of China: Kongjian Yu and the Future of the Chinese City (ed. Terreform Press, 2018). Dr. Lin is Professor of Architecture & Urbanism and the Director of the Master of Urban Design program.
Letters to the Leaders of China celebrates the contributions of Chinese landscape architect and designer Kongjian Yu and includes articles from geographers, urban historians, sociologists, and critical theorists. The book situates Yu’s work within the context of China’s rapidly evolving cities, explores those cities’ historical morphologies, and chronicles Yu’s upbringing in a rural village and formative years in Beijing. Other chapter contributors include Ai Weiwei, Peter Rowe and Michael Sorkin.
Dr. Lin’s research focuses on modern architectural avant-garde movements, theory and practice of urban design, and contemporary architecture and urbanism in East Asia. He is the author of Kenzo Tange and the Metabolist Movement: Urban Utopias of Modern Japan, and a coauthor of Urban Design in the Global Perspective, The Making of a Chinese Model New Town, and Vertical Urbanism: Designing Compact Cities in China, in addition to several chapters in edited books. He has published dozens of articles in leading academic periodicals including Journal of Architectural Education, Journal of Urban Design, Journal of Urban History, Journal of Architectural & Planning Research, Time+Architecture, and Architectural Journal among others. He was a 2013 Guggenheim Fellow and a 2012 Woodrow Wilson Fellow.
