Architecture Alums Win AIA NC 2020 Design and Chapter Awards
Alumni of the School of Architecture received numerous accolades at the AIA North Carolina Design and Chapter Awards, held on Friday, October 23, in an online event. The statewide awards competition recognizes design that exceeds benchmarks for outstanding architectural design, structural composition, and application of design theory. More than 100 projects were evaluated; 21 received awards.
Robby Johnston and Craig Kerins of The Raleigh Architecture Company received a Merit Award for the BB Residence (pictured right) and an Honor Award for the Green-Klem Residence.
Albert McDonald of Clark Nexsen in Raleigh received an Honor Award for the GO Raleigh Bus Shelter (pictured above).
Sara Melanson of Clark Nexsen in Asheville received an Honor Award for the Watauga Community Recreation Center in Boone.
Alan McGuinn of ARCA Design, PLLC, in Asheville received a Merit Award for the Asheville Art Museum expansion and renovation (pictured left).
In addition to these award-winning projects, alumna Vershaé Crawley Hite won the AIA NC Chapter Emerging Professional Award. Hite, who received her Bachelor of Architecture from UNC Charlotte in 2009, completed a Master of Architecture in 2001 at the University of Westminster in London. She is currently an associate architect and project manager at Vines Architecture in Raleigh.
