Architecture Students to Address Planning Commission

Categories: News Tags: Architecture

Students in Professor Deb Ryan’s fifth-year architecture studio will address the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission working group on May 7, presenting their research from their #ShapeCLT project. The project, funded by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, integrates community input with research on the city’s history and development to propose plans for Charlotte’s growth that represents the voices and viewpoints of the local “Millennial” population. Data from the U.S. Census Bureau indicates that in 2015, Charlotte was the number one city in the nation to which Millennials migrated.

After their presentation, the students will continue to develop a comprehensive report that will include 30 design ideas, which they will present later in the summer.

Ryan, a professor of architecture and urban design, is the current chair of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission.
