Work by Percussion Professor to be Performed in London
A composition by percussion professor Rick Dior will be performed in January by the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. The concert, which will take place on January 5, 2019, at London’s Barbican Hall, will also feature music by John Adams and Jean Sibelius.
Dior’s 12-minute work, Science Fiction, pays tribute to science fiction and horror movies of the 20th-century. Originally composed for a 12-piece percussion ensemble, with electronics and video projection, it will be performed in a new orchestrated version. The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, conducted by Kirill Karabits, is comprised of 164 musicians, age 13 -19, from across the United Kingdom. Founded in 1948, the orchestra has many notable alumni, including the conductor Sir Simon Rattle.
