Assistant Professor of Voice Carl DuPont will compete in the 20th International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition, to take place in Leipzig, Germany, July 4-16. The competition will be held in the categories of voice, organ, and cello/Baroque cello and consists of four competitive rounds in each category. Participants were chosen in a juried pre-selection process this spring.

Presented every two years by the Bach-Archiv Leipzig, the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition is regarded as one of the major international competitions for young artists ages 16-33. It is directed by Robert Levin, a prominent American musicologist and pianist/keyboardist.

Dr. DuPont, bass-baritone, completed his doctorate at the University of Miami Frost School of Music and has performed as a soloist with the Rochester Oratorio Society, Southwest Florida Symphony, and, notably, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
