Professor Mary Tuma Featured in McColl Center Exhibition
A new exhibition at the McColl Center for Art + Innovation features work by three artists, including Associate Professor of Art Mary Tuma. Tell Me More: Unique Perspectives on Our Collective Human Experience opens with a reception on Friday, April 14, and runs through May 27.
Curated by Mark Leach, Tell Me More presents works by McColl Center artists that tell personal and diverse stories about the human condition, exploring issues of gender, ethnicity, and community. Dustin Farnsworth is the 2017 Wingate Artist-in-Residence; Tuma and Joyce J. Scott are Alumni Artists-in-Residence.
A fiber artist, Tuma ties fabric pieces together to create expansive sculptural installations that explore aspects of human form. “My work addresses issues of the transformation of the body and the spirit through the use of clothing forms applied to found objects or placed within a contextual environment,” she says.
