Faculty Present at ATHE 2017 Conference

Associate Dean of Performing Arts Services Dean Adams and three faculty members from the Department of Theatre presented at the 2017 Annual Conference of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE), held August 3-6 in Las Vegas.

Dean Adams served as a senior scholar on several panels as part of the Musical Theatre and Dance Pre-conference “Opening Doors: Developing a Career in Musical Theatre and Dance in Higher Education.” He also presented a paper in the panel presentation, “Unfortunately, no electricity, no art,” which takes as a premise the idea that theatrical technology is an art worthy of study.

Aly Amidei, assistant professor of costume design, contributed to the session “Costume and the Creation of Meaning in Spectacle” with the presentation of her paper, “World Building for New Works.”

Carlos Cruz, assistant professor of physical theatre, organized “Circus at a Glance: Research in Contemporary Circus through a Theatrical Lens,” series of workshops, panel presentations, and performances.

Assistant Professor of Acting Kaja Dunn led a panel addressing “Safe Spaces for Theatre Students of Color” and participated in the panel, “Mentoring Diversity in Performance Pedagogy: Asking the Uncertain Questions,” a discussion for acting teachers about how to increase the racial diversity of the work that is done at their schools.
