Director of Bands Conducts in Argentina

Last month, Director of Bands Shawn Smith conducted the Symphonic Band of Córdoba and the Polifonic Choir of Córdoba in a concert on October 15 at the Teatro del Libertador General San Martín, a beautiful 19^th-century opera house in Córdoba, Argentina. Both the band and the choir are publicly funded professional ensembles.

The band performed three works independently, including Leonard Bernstein’s Candide Overture, and was joined by the chorus for two works, The Battle Hymn of the Republic and Celebraciones Medievales, by the 20^th-century Spanish/Catalan composer Carlos Surinach.

Dr. Smith is frequently invited to conduct in South America. He made his debut with the Symphonic Band of Córdoba last year.
