Lecturer Rachel Engstrom Wins Local BroadwayWorld Award

Designs for "Spring Awakening" win "Costume Design of the Decade."

Lecturer Rachel Engstrom has won the "Costume Design of the Decade" award in the 2020 BroadwayWorld Charlotte awards. Engstrom, who is the costume lab supervisor for the College of Arts + Architecture's Performing Arts Services, was recognized for her designs for the 2018 Theatre Charlotte production of Spring Awakening.

 The 2020 BroadwayWorld Charlotte Awards were chosen by public vote. Community theatre productions, student productions, and college productions that opened between 2011 and September 30, 2020 were eligible.

In addition to her work at UNC Charlotte, where she frequently designs costumes for the Department of Dance concerts, Engstrom is a freelance costume designer. She has designed for productions at the University of California–Irvine, Chapman University, OC Centric New Play Festival, Not Man Apart Physical Theatre Ensemble, New American Theatre, The Blank Theatre, Shakespeare Santa Monica, and Theatre of NOTE and locally for Theatre Charlotte and CPCC Theatre.
