Voice Professor Performs in “Live at Mint” Stream
Assistant Professor of Voice Sequina DuBose will perform in Voice and Vision: Live at the Mint, a livestreamed event on May 29 at 6:00 pm. Presented through a collaboration between the Mint Museum and Opera Carolina, the program features performances by five singers, who were asked to create complementary pairings of songs and paintings that are in the Mint Museum’s collection.
DuBose chose contemporary paintings by two local artists. She will sing “Joy” by Ricky Ian Gordon in response to Beverly McIver’s Dora’s Dance and “Soliloquy” by John W. Work, inspired by Damian Stamer’s New Sharon Church Rd. 47.
DuBose is a lyric soprano whose performing career spans many musical styles, including opera, musical theater, and African-American folk music. Her research is centered on the impact of genre fusion and improvisation in 21st-century operas on vocal pedagogy and performance practice. Originally scheduled as a live performance at the Mint Museum, the event will stream on the Mint Museum Facebook and Instagram sites.
