Theatre Faculty Present Workshop Virtual Reading
Assistant Professor of Acting Kaja Dunn and Chris Berry, who will return to the Department of Theatre faculty in August, will perform in a workshop reading of a new play by Celeste Jennings, streaming live on May 22 at 7:30 pm. The play-in-progress, Processing, is set in Charlotte and addresses Black economics and immigration through the lens of a married couple. A talkback follows the performance.
Jennings is a costume designer and playwright whose choreopoem, Citrus, received the Hip Hop Theatre Creator Award at the Kennedy Center American College Festival. Processing is directed by JaMeeka Holloway-Burrell, artistic director of Black Ops, a theatre company in Durham, NC.
Dunn is producing the livestream, which is funded by a grant from the Arts & Science Council, with support from The Black Theatre Network, and Women’s Theatre Festival. The livestream is free and will be available through Twitch and Facebook Live.
