Theatre Professor’s Children’s Book Adaptation is on Stage in Chicago
Assistant Professor of Costume Design Aly Amidei has adapted the children’s book, Bunny’s Book Club, for the stage in a world premiere production at Chicago’s Lifeline Theatre. The show, part of the Lifeline Theatre’s KidSeries, opened on January 11 and runs through February 16. Amidei has also designed the production’s costumes.
This is Amidei’s second adaptation for the Lifeline’s KidSeries. In 2016 she was the adaptor, co-lyricist, and costume designer for Lester’s Dreadful Sweaters.
Amidei joined the Department of Theatre in 2015. She has worked as a designer and playwright in Chicago for two decades, where she is an ensemble member at at Lifeline Theatre, Strawdog Theatre Company, and Buffalo Theatre Ensemble. Her costume and makeup designs have been seen at Michigan Shakespeare Festival, Lakeside Shakespeare Theatre, Irish Theater of Chicago, Magick Theatre in San Antonio, Buffalo Theater Ensemble, Stage Left, Artistic Home, House Theater, Piven Workshop, and Vitalist Theater. In 2017, she and her husband, actor Brian Amidei, founded Cartage Theatre Company in Charlotte.
