Dr. Jay Grymes, professor of musicology, presented a lecture-recital titled “Satirical Parodies from the Nazi Camp-Ghetto of Theresienstadt” with soprano Rachel Joselson and pianist Anthony Capparelli, both of the University of Iowa. Prior to the opening of the CMS National Conference, Dr. Grymes delivered the Guarnaschelli Lecture at Bellarmine University on October 23, speaking from his book, Violins of Hope: Instruments of Hope and Liberation in Mankind’s Darkest Hour. The distinguished lecture was presented in conjunction with Violins of Hope Louisville, the public presentation of violins with Holocaust histories and related programming, first organized and presented by UNC Charlotte in 2012.
