Alumni’s Work in Local Exhibitions
Two alumni of the Department of Art & Art History are featured artists in local exhibitions this fall. Works by Alexandra Giannell are in Surreal Spaces, a month-long contemporary art exhibition at Goodyear Arts in the Camp North End campus. The show, curated by Hilary Silber Art, features work from seven artists whose artistic practices explore common themes of obscured digital landscapes, fields of imagined spaces, the sublime, and fictional tableaus. It closes September 27.
Paintings by Holly Keogh can be seen in Convergence & Crash, a collective exhibition featuring works by nine women artists offering investigations around the concept of women and their professions as artists in both historical and contemporary frameworks. Convergence & Crash is on view at LaCa Projects through November 9.
In July 2019, Giannell and Keogh, along with fellow painting alumnus Chris Watts, participated in a fully funded Pienkow Arts Residency in Pienkow, Poland, founded and supported by the Polish-American philanthropist Marek Maria Pienkowski. They were accepted through a steep competition, and worked creatively for two weeks among a cohort of young international painters from South Korea, Iran, Germany, Poland, and France.
