How did you first get interested in music?
I started learning music in 6th grade band, and it has stuck with me to this day. I didn't think about teaching until my junior year of high school where I decided that I wanted to teach something I love to give back to the community. That's when I decided that I wanted to teach music because of two main reasons: It's something that I am passionate about, and it's a subject that I believe should be appreciated more in our lives.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I plan to start off as a middle school band director. Then, I would like to pursue graduate degrees in Wind Conducting and teach at the university level.
What is your favorite thing about the music department?
I love how compact and friendly the music department is! I started college in Fall of 2020, and despite COVID-19 being in the way, I was able to make strong connections with my colleagues that are still strong to this day. I have much respect for all my peers and friends in the department, and I also enjoy how active and passionate my colleagues are throughout the entire college.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I have been a preceptor for over a year, and my job is to tutor music students in their music theory and aural skills courses. My job includes assisting students in understanding their course materials and checking off their assignments. With my job, it provides them with additional resources to be successful in their classes.
Can you describe your experience as a scholarship student?
I was awarded the "Belk Performing Arts Scholarship" for this year! As a first-gen student, having this scholarship granted to me not only helped me, but it helped my family out so that I can receive the best education and my family can continue working hard while being supported by the university.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I love to socialize with my friends on social media, and I love playing many kinds of video games!
