How did you become interested in music?
I grew up in a really musical family, so I was surrounded by music at a really young age. I started doing musicals with my mom with our local community theatre group, and as I got older, did more and more theatrical performances. When I was in high school, I began to really focus more on the musical element, being a part of 3 choirs throughout my high school experience, taking 2 years of music theory, student teaching, as well as being on the executive board of my choir and Tri-M Music Honor Society. I had a really wonderful music teacher (shoutout to Megan Will!) who really encouraged me to focus on music in higher education, and after a couple of years of transfer applications and trying to figure out exactly where I wanted to end up, I ended up at UNC Charlotte!

What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to become a high school choir teacher, and also teach Music Theory classes at the high school level!

What is your favorite thing about the Department of Music?
My favorite thing about the Department of Music is the faculty support. They are truly rooting for me and my peers to succeed in our music careers. I leave my classes feeling encouraged about my future as a professional musician and certainly have the faculty to thank for that!

Do you work in the Charlotte arts community?
Last year, I played Serena in “Legally Blonde” the Musical at Piedmont Players in Salisbury, NC, and hope to do more shows there in the near future.

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I love to read! My favorite genre is psychological thriller or mystery, and I love to get new book recommendations! I also love to drink coffee and bake!
