Voice Students Place in NATS Regional Competition
Four UNC Charlotte music students have placed in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition. Founded in 1944, National Association of Teachers of Singing, Inc. (NATS) is the largest professional association of voice teachers in the world. NATS celebrates the art of singing through a series of competitions and programs that are designed to showcase singers who are soon to be rising stars in the profession. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition was held March 22 and 23 at Towson University in Towson, Maryland.
Congratulations to our winners in the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition:
- James Matens (2nd place: 4th/5th year College/Independent Studio Men)—Brian Arreola’s studio
- Regan Sawyer (3rd place: 3rd year College/Independent Studio Women)—Christina Pier’s studio
- Joe McGovern (3rd place: 2nd year College/Independent Studio Men)—Brian Arreola’s studio
- Allison Hancock (5th place: 1st year College/Independent Studio Music Theatre Women)—Christina Pier’s studio
These students will advance to a national online screening round, where they will submit a video of their performances for adjudication by a panel of national judges. Semifinalists and finalists will compete at the NATS National Competition, June 27-28, 2019, at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
