Music Professors, Alums, to Perform 9/11 Memorial Concerts
The independent choral group Sine Nomine, led by Associate Professor of Voice Alissa Deeter and music alumnus Dareion Malone, with Mark Johanson, will perform a program in recognition of the 15th anniversary of 9/11. Featuring Morton Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna (1997), the program will be performed twice: on Saturday, September 10, at 7:30 pm at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Concord and on Sunday, September 11, at 3:00 pm at Myers Park Presbyterian in Charlotte. Tickets are $10; $5 for students.
Morton Lauridsen composed Lux Aeterna (Eternal Light) after the death of his mother. Drawing upon ancient modes, Renaissance polyphony, Romanticism, and modern dissonance, the five movements of Lux Aeterna are based on references to light from sacred Latin texts. Also on the program, special guest John Woodall, a UNC Charlotte music alumnus now living in Colorado, will perform the title song from his new CD entitled Wildflowers.
In addition to Deeter and Malone, several members of Sine Nomine are part of the UNC Charlotte music family, including Assistant Professor of Voice Carl DuPont, Director of Choral Activities Randy Haldeman, Associate Professor of Voice Brian Arreola, and Associate Professor of Music Education Fred Spano.
