Theatre Chair to Participate in Arts Engagement Conference
Dr. Lynne Conner, chair of the Department of Theatre, will join a panel addressing civic engagement and the arts as part of a conference in Los Angeles hosted by Zocalo Public Square. The conference, What Can the World Teach California about Arts Engagement?, is funded by the James Irvine Foundation and takes place on June 25.
Dr. Conner will contribute to the panel discussion, “Does Art Really Make Us Better Citizens?” Her remarks will be drawn from her book, Audience Engagement and the Role of Arts Talk in the Digital Era (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013). The panel will be moderated by Suse Anderson, co-host of Museopunks and Assistant Professor of Museum Studies at George Washington University. To learn more about the conference, please click here.
Dr. Conner is a theater and dance historian, cultural policy theorist, and playwright. Her research, writing, and arts advocacy work are focused on exploring the active role that audiences can play in interpreting the meaning and value of the arts. She frequently lectures about topics in the cultural policy field and most recently presented at the 12th Annual Conference on the Arts in Society.
