Professor is OhioDance Festival Guest Artist
Associate Professor of Dance Karen Hubbard was the featured guest artist at the OhioDance Festival and Conference, held April 27-29 at The Ohio State University (OSU). The theme of the conference was Pathways from Past to Present. Hubbard received her Master of Arts in Dance at OSU.
During the conference, Hubbard taught two Vintage Jazz master classes and presented the festival’s guest lecture, in which she traced Ohio’s dance history, presented historical jazz dance research, and presented highlights from her professional career, including vintage jazz pieces that she has set on UNC Charlotte students.
Hubbard is a specialist in jazz movement from the first half of the 20th century, including the cultural and historical/aesthetic aspects of the form. Earlier this spring, she was interviewed for an international documentary on the history of jazz dance.
