Summer Spotlight: Theatre Students
Our theatre students are doing great things this summer! Here are a few highlights:
Amberlin McCormick spent the first half of the summer hosting three shows for the Carowinds Entertainment Department. She recently left for NYC to study in the six-week Professional Summer Acting program at the Off-Broadway theatre company, The Barrow Group.
Aly Allen was cast in a short film called Blue View, written and directed by Andrew Brown and shot in Carolina Beach. She also participated in the webseries Dusk, directed by Ron Rossman.
Ariana Arocho recently shot a major regional commercial for Sheetz and signed with the JTA Talent Agency. This summer she has served as music director for a musical theatre summer camp and a production of The Lion King, Jr. at Hickory Grove Christian School.
Shaye Ellerbe was an extra for a commerical and spent some time in New York City seeing Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.
Marcus Fitzpatrick participated in the American Theatre Wings Springboard NYC program. This program gave him the opportunity to see Broadway shows, work with industry professionals, and attend the 72nd annual Tony Awards ceremony.
Kayla Rivers is in the Charlotte Community Scholars program, assisting professor Carlos Cruz as a research assistant for The Nouveau Sud Project. She is also a stage manager for Archipelago, the theatre department’s faculty research show, which runs September 12-16.
