UNC Charlotte Dance Majors Katie Harmon and Victoria Stewart received Betty Holding Dancers Fund scholarships from the Wake Forest Dance Festival. These $500 scholarships are available on a competitive basis to student performers selected for the dance festival, which took place in September.

The Wake Forest Dance Festival was founded in 2017 by Masha Maddux, a former principal with the Martha Graham Dance Company. The festival presents both professional and advanced student performers in a wide range of dance styles. The Wake Forest Dance Festival created the scholarships this year to honor dance instructor Betty Holding, who was from Wake Forest, North Carolina, and was a Radio City Music Hall Rockette and an understudy for balletmaster George Balanchine.

Harmon hopes to use the funds to study abroad in India; Stewart will apply her award to UNC Charlotte tuition.
