Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees change from year to year, so students should check carefully with the main UNC Charlotte Graduate School website as part of their application process.

Under the mandates of the state constitution, UNC Charlotte prides itself as providing an excellent program of study at an affordable price, and the following tuition and fee estimates for full-time graduate study are provided as a guide only and are based on rates for full-time study (12 credit hours per semester) for the 2013-2014 academic year. The figures relate to the full 12-month, 3-semester M.U.D program.

Tuition Funding for New Master of Urban Design and Dual Degree Students for 2012/2013

Competitive funding for new graduate students is available in the following categories:

$2,000 one-year, Standard New Master’s Student Award

  1. new master’s students (summer or fall admission; in-state or out-of-state student)
  2. students are nominated by faculty and nominations received prior to end-of-business on April 13 given priority
  3. prior to April 13, funding decisions will be made within a 24 hr period by the graduate school
  4. recipients must register for a min of 6 graduate credit hrs/semester
  5. YR2 funding for dual degree students ($1,000) is possible but is not guaranteed

One-year, full tuition Exceptional New Master’s Student Award (limited number)

  1. new master’s students (summer or fall 2012; in-state or out-of-state student)
  2. students are nominated by faculty and nominations received prior to end-of-business on April 13 given priority
  3. awards are limited; early funding decisions will be made by April 15
  4. recipients must register for a min of 6 graduate credit hours/semester
  5. students nominated and not approved for this award will be considered for the standard, $2,000 award
  6. YR2 funding for dual degree students ($1,000) is possible but is not guaranteed

Top Funding-related Suggestions:

  1. UNC Charlotte offers an interest-free payment plan, managed by the Office of Student Accounts
  2. eligible domestic non-resident students (and non-resident students with permanent resident alien (PRA) status) can apply for NC Residency for Tuition Purposes; if approved, they can attend at in-state rates (refer students to the Residency Determination Office/website)
  3. eligible students that complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2012 can compete for tuition assistance grants managed by the Office of Student Financial Aid
