Alumni Work Featured in Communication Arts Magazine
Art alumni Laura Knight Beebe (BFA ’13) and Savannah Jackson (BFA ’17) will have their graphic design work featured in the January/February 2019 print edition of Communication Arts. Beebe and Jackson use their talents as art director and junior art director, respectively, at Boone Oakley, a Charlotte advertising agency.
Beebe and Jackson provided design, art direction, and photography for a new ad campaign for Duke’s Bread that deploys humor to remind consumers of the joy of bread in a “no carb / low carb” environment. Upon the successful launch of the campaign, the Communication Arts editorial team reached out to Boone Oakley to feature the materials in an online exhibition on the magazine’s website. The magazine followed up that selection with an upcoming print feature on the design work. The Duke’s Bread project was also noted by Lürzer’s Archive, an international advertising magazine, which featured the imagery online as its “Print Ad of the Week” and will include it in an upcoming print edition.
Previously this year, Communication Arts magazine selected Beebe’s work for an Outer Banks tourism campaign. The Outer Banks Visitors Bureau engaged Boone Oakley to develop an attention-getting campaign to remind urbanites in the Northeastern U.S. that a beach vacation is as close as the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The resulting advertisements and video were featured in an online exhibition on Communication Arts website.
Founded in 1959, Communication Arts is the most widely circulated international trade journal of visual communication. Lürzer’s Archive is a Vienna-based international advertising magazine, with European and Chinese editions, as well as African and Eastern European coverage.
