An exhibition of sculptures by Keith Bryant opens at the Turchin Center in Boone on September 6.

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts at Appalachian State University will host an exhibition of sculptures by Lecturer Keith Bryant, opening September 6.  Metaphorical Reality presents 12 works that address ideas of loneliness, isolation, architecture, and landscape.

"My work is an attempt to make visual my personal reality—thoughts and feelings based on my experiences making the abstract concrete and multi-interpretive," Bryant writes in an artist statement. "To tease out these ideas I use and respond to different materials and techniques ranging from found objects to fabricated forms made from concrete, steel, plaster, lead, plastic, wood and/or clay. There is an endless need to discover materials that match my current ideas, which creates continual research to create the right fit."

Bryant joined the Department of Art & Art History in 2000, where his instructional focus is ceramics, sculpture, and three-dimensional design. His work has been exhibited nationally and is held in corporate collections throughout the southeast and mountain states.

Metaphorical Reality will be on view through February 1, 2020. An exhibition reception wil take place on October 4 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm.
