Degree: BM in Composition, Applied Instrument: Cello
Graduation Year: 2025
How did you first get interested in music?
While I taking a computer class in high school, I was assigned a project. I then decided to base the whole assignment off of music instruments to teach people about the unique sounds and history of each instrument, and that is when I knew I wanted to study music. I could talk about that project for hours. A year later, I went to Cannon Music Camp, and I was pushed to compose a short musical excerpt. This opened a whole new door for me because that small excerpt became the bare bones of my very first composition. I haven’t stopped writing music since that day.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to have a career in composition, maybe even a teaching position. I am hoping to go to grad school to get my doctorate in composition, that way I can teach and compose.
What is your favorite thing about the Department of Music?
I love the community between everyone. We all work very hard to grow, improve, and are always there for each other.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte community?
I am a part of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity on campus.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
When I am not studying or practicing, I love to listen to music. I also like to relax with my friends. Watching tv shows or playing card games are also always fun to do.
