BA in Music and a Minor in Japanese
2025

How did you first get interested in music?
Starting in church choirs from a young age, I’ve always had a love and passion for music. During my high school years, that passion grew greatly thanks to the nurturing guidance of my choir teacher. She helped me prepare for my departmental auditions and pushed me to work hard and try my best. During this time I also became obsessed with Opera and classical music. I’ve loved singing and my love and passion to perform has grown greatly during my time at UNC Charlotte.

I am also currently studying abroad in Japan! This has been such an amazing experience and I have even met musicians during my time here. I have also taken Shamisen lessons, which is a traditional Japanese instrument derived from the Chinese instrument Sanxian. In the future when I return to Japan, I hope to take Koto lessons.

What kind of career do you hope to have?
When I graduate, I hope to continue performing and remain in choirs and perhaps start a voice studio. I am also considering going to grad school to further my education in Music. With the Japanese minor as well, I feel like I have different options with that as well. Overall, my main goal is to just keep making beautiful music and sharing it with those around me.

What is your favorite thing about the College of Arts + Architecture?
My favorite thing is how close we are in the department and the family that we are. Everyone is so nice and helpful! The advisors and different departmental leaders and staff have really made my time, and I think everyone’s time here amazing.

Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I am a member of Nihon Club and the Japanese Reading Club! I am not a part of the arts clubs or activities, but I would love to be a part of one!

When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
When I am free from school, I love watching movies and playing the piano for fun. I’m a voice major, but I have spent many hours in the practice rooms not practicing vocal music. I also love meeting up with my friends and doing things!
