How did you first get interested in music?
I first became interested in Music when I entered middle school. In the 6th grade, I joined my middle school choir, and participating in an ensemble made me a more confident and social individual. Singing allowed me to express myself In ways that weren’t always easy with words.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I plan to have a career in writing and performing music and collaborating with others on musical projects.
What is your favorite thing about the Department of Music?
My favorite thing about the UNC Charlotte Department of Music is the musical opportunities to perform and learn with individuals from the Charlotte community and beyond. Dr. Elizabeth Sullivan, associate professor of oboe, specifically, has inspired me to embrace challenges when learning musical skills and to be inclusive to others and their experiences.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I am currently part of a group of University Chorale students who will be performing with the Charlotte Master Chorale on Leonard Bernstein’s “Chichester Psalms” this fall. The most exciting part about getting to work with Charlotte Master Chorale is being able to sing under Director Kenny Potter again. In 2016, I had the opportunity of participating in Wingate Chorale Festival in which Dr. Potter was the director.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
When I am not in class, I love reading and writing poetry and songs.
