Carolina Quintana was a Martin Scholar at UNC Charlotte, and the prestigious full-tuition merit scholarship allowed her to pursue her dreams of being an artist. Recognizing her talent, Carolina’s high school teacher had recommended that she visit UNC Charlotte, and, as she told Associate Professor of Art History Jim Frakes in a interview, “After touring the campus I simply fell in love.”

Upon graduating Carolina received an internship with the Netflix Animation Foundation Program. She has designed and illustrated a children’s book called What Am I? (written by Rosario Dacres, 2022) and has had work commissioned by UNC Charlotte, Charlotte is Creative, and the McColl Center. She also worked for animated filmmaker Jamie Margolin to produce Pelea, an independent film “centering on a group of young women fighting a fictional fossil fuel corporation that invades their home,” she described.

Professor J.B. Burke invited Carolina to contribute work for the Generations exhibition in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Department of Art & Art History. Her animated short, Mi Modo, is an updated version of her Honors Thesis and is a semi-autobiographical work designed to communicate elements of the Latin-American experience, particularly through food culture.
