Undergraduate Admissions

Undergraduate Admissions
The Bachelor of Arts in Architecture degree is one of the most selective undergraduate majors at UNC Charlotte. Admission to the School of Architecture (SoA) involves a secondary application process, above and beyond what is required to be considered for admission into the University, and applicants are expected to demonstrate a high level of critical thinking, ambition, and curiosity toward design and the built environment.
Our application process is designed to identify prospective students with strong academic credentials and an enthusiastic interest in one or more of the areas of specialization valued by the SoA: building design, urban design, community engagement, sustainable technologies, computational design, and historical research, theory, and critical heritage. Enthusiasm for the built environment means different things for different people, and the SoA is open to accommodating students with a range of interests. Passionate students will find many opportunities at the SoA to pursue their intellectual and career goals related to architecture. Our graduates become licensed architects, researchers, practitioners in other disciplines, and all-around citizens of the global economy and culture.
The deadline for Fall 2025 admissions has passed, and the SoA is no longer accepting applications for this cycle. Updated information on the next cycle (for admission in Fall 2026) will be posted here by July 1, 2025.

Deadlines and Notification Dates
The Fall 2025 admission cycle is now closed for new applicants. The next cycle will be for admission in Fall 2026 (admission into the SoA is offered only in the fall semester; neither spring nor summer admission is possible).
Applications are considered complete by the SoA after they have fulfilled all of the requirements of the general application for admission into UNC Charlotte, and submitted all of the secondary materials required by the SoA. Recently completed applications will receive an initial decision (accept, wait list, or deny) according to the timeline below:
- Complete application by February 1, 2025: Round 3 Decision on/by March 1, 2025
- Complete application by February 15, 2025: Round 4 Decision on/by April 1, 2025
Frequently Asked Questions
Admission into the SoA is extremely competitive. We received over 500 applications for our first-year program, leading us to deny and waitlist many qualified applicants.
- Waitlisted applicants will be updated on their status on a rolling basis as final decisions are made, possibly soon after their initial decision depending on the process; all deferred applicants will receive an updated decision no later than April 1, 2025, and a final notification no later than May 7, 2025.
- The SoA will revoke all offers of admission not formally accepted by May 1, 2025.
- The SoA does not have the capacity to advise denied applicants on their applications; however, open houses offered during the next admission cycle will be available to provide tips and best practices on the application process.
For questions not addressed in those sections, please contact the SoA Admission Committee via email (soa-admissions@charlotte.edu), and allow a few business days for a response.
Calling the SoA will be less efficient and effective because you may not reach the person best suited to addressing your question. Email is the best way to have your question addressed by the best possible person in the quickest possible manner.
