Admission to the BA in Architecture program in the David R. Ravin School of Architecture is a competitive, Fall-only process. Most high school and transfer students applying to the Bachelor of Arts in Architecture are applying to join the first year architectural studio sequence. Only students who have completed the 74-credit Associate of Applied Science Degree - Architectural Technology - UNCC Transfer Track (A40100T) at Central Piedmont Community College by May 2024 will be eligible to apply for the third year advanced standing track, which will start in August 2023. Please note that completing this degree at CPCC does not guarantee admittance to UNC Charlotte's David R. Ravin School of Architecture. The application process is competitive and not all qualified applicants will be offered admissions.
To be accepted into the School of Architecture requires two separate application and admission processes as detailed below. For applicants already enrolled as a student at UNC Charlotte, skip to step 2 below (first year track).
Based on a review of your academic standing and SoA application portfolio, you may be selected for an individual interview. During the 30-minute virtual interview you will be asked to discuss work presented through your digital portfolio. If selected, you will receive further instructions on how to schedule an interview. Keep in mind the process is competitive and not all students are selected for an interview.
Applicants must be admitted to UNC Charlotte before they can be admitted to the SoA. If an applicant does not get selected for an interview, they will be not be selected for admission to the program. If you are not admitted to the SoA, your acceptance to the University remains unchanged. You may still choose to enroll at UNC Charlotte and pursue another course of study. You may also choose to reapply for admission the following year. Final decisions regarding admission to the SoA or placement on the waitlist will be made before May 1st. A limited number of applicants from the waitlist may be notified of acceptance over the summer if seats become available. All decisions will be communicated via email.
For questions regarding the admissions process, please contact SoA-Admissions@charlotte.edu or Undergraduate Program Director Greg Snyder at email@example.com.
The SoA admits first year and third year students for fall semester only.
Applications will be reviewed as they are received; it is not necessary to wait for the final deadline.
Remember to check your email to see if you have been selected for an interview. Emails will come from SoA-Admissions@charlotte.edu.
The admissions process is competitive and not all students are selected.
Do not wait for a final decision from the university before applying to the SoA; you can apply to both at once.
If you apply to the SoA, but your application to UNC Charlotte remains incomplete after February 1st, you will not be eligible for admission to the SoA.
Application portfolios that do not meet the specifications outlined in the SoA Application Portfolio Guidelines document will not be evaluated.
These application portfolios, from the 2020-2021 admissions cycle, can provide guidance to prospective first year applicants. Please note that the guidelines have changed since these were submitted, and they are to be used for reference only. Make sure that the current application portfolio guidelines are adhered to. Names and other private information have been redacted.
