Undergraduate Admissions

The Bachelor of Arts in Architecture degree is one of the most selective undergraduate majors at UNC Charlotte. Admission to the School of Architecture (SoA) involves a secondary application process, above and beyond what is required to be considered for admission into the University, and applicants are expected to demonstrate a high level of critical thinking, ambition, and curiosity toward design and the built environment.

Our application process is designed to identify prospective students with strong academic credentials and an enthusiastic interest in one or more of the areas of specialization valued by the SoA: building design, urban design, community engagement, sustainable technologies, computational design, and historical research, theory, and critical heritage. Enthusiasm for the built environment means different things for different people, and the SoA is open to accommodating students with a range of interests. Passionate students will find many opportunities at the SoA to pursue their intellectual and career goals related to architecture. Our graduates become licensed architects, researchers, practitioners in other disciplines, and all-around citizens of the global economy and culture.

The deadline for Fall 2025 admissions has passed, and the SoA is no longer accepting applications for this cycle. Information on Fall 2026 admission is now posted below.

Fall 2026 Admissions Information

Applicants to UNC Charlotte interested in majoring in Architecture must first declare “Architecture” as their major in their general application (using either the Future 49er application or Common App). The Fall 2026 Admission cycle opened on August 1, 2025, which is when that declaration may be made (currently, “Architecture” is not an option on the general application because the University is still completing its Fall 2025 cycle). Prospective applicants may use the information below about our secondary process and its required materials to begin to work on their materials before the cycle officially begins.

Current UNC Charlotte students interested in majoring in Architecture must apply for a change-of-major into the program, using their UNC Charlotte email account to complete a Google Form. The application materials required for this type of application are nearly identical to those required for external applications.

The SoA does not admit students in spring semesters. Students planning to enroll in UNC Charlotte in Spring 2026 should wait until they are admitted and enrolled in that semester, and then follow the instructions above for current UNC Charlotte students completing a change-of-major application.

The SoA offers many opportunities for prospective students to speak with our admissions team, which includes faculty, advisors, and program administrators, and to meet current students. These group events will be scheduled throughout the academic year and include both in-person and virtual opportunities to tour our facilities, ask questions about the program, and get advice about the admissions process.

The SoA also participates in all of UNC Charlotte’s campus-wide open houses and recruiting events, which the University schedules early in each semester.

Information about the dates and times of our events, including instructions for how to register for them, will be posted here by early August.

Unfortunately, our admissions team does not have the capacity to schedule one-on-one meetings with prospective students, but our group events include breakout sessions for individual questions, and prospective students are also encouraged to email us at soa-admissions@charlotte.edu.
