The Department of Theatre offers a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, with concentrations in one of the following areas: Performance; Design/Tech; Directing, Dramaturgy and Dramatic Writing; Applied Theatre; and Theatre Education (with the possibility of obtaining a North Carolina teaching license). A Minor in Theatre and an Undergraduate Certificate in Musical Theatre are also offered. Coursework in the Department of Theatre is available to all students enrolled at the University, as are the auditions for our productions. Discover our programs below!

This concentration is designed for students who are looking for a flexible theatre degree, highlighting essential skills that employers value in theatre practitioners: collaboration, leadership, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.

Performance
Theatre, Performance Concentration, B.A. →
This concentration is designed for students who wish to pursue acting in all its varied forms: live theatre, tv, film, voice acting, motion capture, content creation, and emerging media.

THEATRE EDUCATION
Theatre, Theatre Education (K-12) Concentration, B.A. →
This concentration is designed for students who wish to teach theatre in public schools, K-12. The coursework is designed to lead to state licensure in North Carolina for K-12.

Design/tech
Theatre, Design/Tech Concentration, B.A. →
This program is for students who wish to pursue areas of theatrical design and technology (scenic, costume, lighting, sound), as well as management (stage and production) and emerging areas (projection and media design).

Directing, Dramaturgy and Dramatic Writing
Theatre, Directing, Dramaturgy, and Dramatic Writing Concentration, B.A. →
This concentration is designed for students who wish to pursue directing, writing for the state and/or screen, dramaturgy as well as more academic-learning fields of theatre history/criticism/theory.

Applied Theatre
Theatre, Applied Theatre Concentration, B.A. →
This concentration is designed for students who wish to pursue careers as teaching artists at theatre companies, and in fields such as theatre for social justice/change, and community-based arts engagement.
