How did you first get interested in architecture?
I originally became interested in architecture at a very young age. I always loved constructing, from as simple as LEGO’s to as complicated as helping my dad redesign/ reconstruct our entire backyard. Throughout high school, I took many courses that taught about design and included myself in many community service clubs, overall helping to create a better environment. I did this because one main goal of mine was to help out the homeless/ less fortunate by creating affordable housing, which still interests me to this day with the hopes of achieving this goal in the future.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
In the future, I hope to be able to have my own Architecture firm with a lot of wonderful colleagues, striving to better the community by designing affordable housing to ensure everyone has a roof over their heads.
What is your favorite thing about the David R. Ravin School of Architecture?
My favorite thing about the School of Architecture department is the community that I am surrounded by. Everyone is so supportive and always ready to work. The students and the professors all have really close bonds, which leads to great teaching and learning experiences.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
I am a member of AIAS which is the American Institute of Architecture Students. Being in this organization helps advance leadership and design throughout the School of Architecture here at UNC Charlotte. It supplies me with a fantastic group of individuals that all help each other become their best.
What is one thing that you have gained from the Arts + Architecture Honors Program?
I am in the Arts + Architecture Honors Program, and participating in this has helped me gain confidence in my work. Everyone in the program meets frequently for an event, which lets us get to know each other very well. In addition to this, when we have a meeting where certain individuals share their work, everyone gives constructive criticism and advice to only improve their work, providing confidence and strength to keep pushing each other to produce their best work.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
When I am not in class, studying, or working, I like to exercise. I have a good balance between lifting weights and doing cardio, but doing both 3-4 times a week keeps me healthy and gives me a good routine to follow.
