Sarah Leonard was the first student at UNC Charlotte to earn a degree in art history, earning the degree the first year it was offered. After graduating, she worked for a few years at Waterworks Visual Arts Center and attended classes at UNC Greensboro, later graduating with a master’s degree in art history from Georgia State University in Atlanta in 2013.

Sarah taught art appreciation for 10 years at Davidson-Davie Community College and is now a full-time faculty member at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, North Carolina, where she teaches art history survey courses . She lives in High Point with her husband, daughter, and three cats.

Sarah was invited by art history professor Bonnie Noble to contribute an essay for the 60th anniversary of the Department of Art & Art History celebration.
