How did you first get interested in art?
I got interested in the Fine Arts in general because I experienced each aspect of it in my life. I grew up doing professional dancing and practicing theater which led me to explore music by being a percussionist. What got me hooked on the art aspect was when I took two visual classes near the end of high school and it stuck ever since. I still enjoy doing all other aspects of Fine Arts, but I believe that Graphic design is the best-controlled field of study that shows the best visuals to an individual.
What kind of career do you hope to have?
I hope to be a creative director or graphic designer for a well known company where people can feel inspired by my work
What is your favorite thing about the Department of Art & Art History?
What I like most about the department is how connected the students and the professors are. They all are very welcoming and understanding of the culture of design work for the public eye. We all want to see each other succeed with the resources available. The professor helps look at different aspects of the same basic understanding of composition. They hope nothing but the best for us to succeed and I believe that these departments have brought integrity and provided the resources for us to succeed.
Do you participate in any community activities or work in the Charlotte arts community?
As far as participating within the community, I am the President of the Upsilon Xi Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. I have been a member since Fall 2022 and we have engaged within the campus community with many acts of service and educational programs to help enlighten and unify the community.
For the arts, I have been a Graphic Design Intern within the Writing Rhetoric and Digital Studies Department. I assisted Dr. Lewis and her team in creating any graphics needed such as social media presence and flyers for lectures, programs, and events.
Also for the Charlotte community, I was an intern and now a contractor to the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in uptown Charlotte. I help design the layout for the exhibitions and galleries on all floors that satisfies the curator for the overall theme of the exhibition.
Please talk about your experience in the Arts + Architecture Honors Program.
From being in the Honors Program, I learned how to properly set up my presentations and the expectations that come from trying to show proposed research within a conference. I think with the practices that I was given, I’m able to show my best designs, proposals, and research the professional style for real-world scenarios.
When you are not in class, studying, or working, what do you like to do for fun?
I like to sketch up some tattoo designs, try new activities within the area, and binge watching a series or movies
